A while ago I was asking my girls if they wanted more handmade gifts this year for Christmas or if they were tired of mom’s stuff. You just never know what they really like and what you spend many hours creating and it ends up in a drawer or box somewhere never to be seen again. I was pleased to hear that they were not tired of my stuff and to keep on creating. That is when my very fashion conscious daughter-in-law, who would never shop for clothes at a big box store or wear anything but the best label, said she had seen these really cute legwarmers worn over blue jeans in one of her fashion magazines and asked if I would make those. After discussing what they looked like and what color etc. I had a good idea of what she wanted.
Last year I saw this really cute pattern for legwarmers I thought my girls would like for Christmas gifts but I had already made them enough for that year and I thought I’d keep them in mind for this year. It just so happened those legwarmers were exactly what my daughter-in-law was asking for! Thanks to Ravelry this old mom isn’t so out of touch with fashion after all. The pattern was written by Susan Power and published in the Spring 2008 issue of Knitty.
I completed this pair of legwarmers (not for my daughter-in-law) using Lion Brand Wool-Ease in fisherman. It took 3 – 3oz skeins of yarn to complete the pair including the pom-poms using US size 7 needles. I really like the way Susan works the cables into these legwarmers. She has the main cable up the back of the leg with looser cables all around.
