The Double Cross

I think this is the best book yet in Clare O’Donohue’s Someday Quilts Mystery series!  The Double Cross takes Nell Fitzgerald and a few of her quilting group to a Bed & Breakfast in upstate New York to teach a week-long quilting class.  When they get to the Inn, they find the place in a very rundown state and the group of people signed up to take the class are not your typical quilters.  The B&B owners are childhood friends of one of the ladies in Nell’s quilting group, but they have not been in contact with each other for more than 40 years.

The women are wondering if they should have come when things start to disappear and one of the B&B owners is found dead, covered with a quilt, and a gunshot wound to the heart.  Naturally Nell and her group are obsessed with finding out who did it when the police are focussed on one of their own.

The Double Cross is a quilt block and the perfect name for this book.  I’m not going to give too much away, but I highly recommend this book.  There is one more book in this series, The Devil’s Puzzle, which came out this year.  I must find this book.  Happy Reading!  Kathryn

A Drunkard’s Path

I just finished another great book!  As a knitter, sewer, quilter, etc. I love good books that are centered around my crafts.  This series is a quilter’s mystery and drunkard’s path is a quilt pattern with lots of curves.  I’d say it is a pretty good name for a book with many twists and turns of it’s own.

A Drunkard’s Path is the 2nd book by author Clare O’Donohue in the Someday Quilts Mystery series featuring Nell Fitzgerald.  Nell is a 20 something young woman who, after having her heart-broken, has moved to a small town and lives with her Grandmother.  Her Grandmother owns a quilt shop.  The quilting circle that meets every Friday night in the quilt shop consists of women of all ages, from 20’s to 70’s.  Nell has become a part of their circle and has enlisted these women to help her solve the mystery of the death of a woman whose body was found nearby.  This is against police chief Jess Dewalt’s wishes.  He as told her numberous times to stay out of police business.  But, Nell has a very inquisitive nature and just can’t leave it alone.

I really am enjoying this series and have started book #3 in the series, The Double Cross.  More later!  Happy Reading!  Kathryn

The Lover’s Knot

I’ve reserved the  next few books in the Martha’s Vineyard series I am reading and I am patiently waiting for them to come in via the  interloan service our library provides.  Meanwhile, I was browsing through the new books at the library, I came across a new quilting mystery.  It was book #3 in a series.  I read so many books that I sometimes forget if I’ve read a particular author or series.  That was the case with this series.  It sounded familiar, but I just wasn’t sure if I read this one or not.  So, when in doubt re-read!  I picked up all three books in the series.  What series you ask – it is the Someday Quilts Mystery series by Clare O’Donohue .  The first book in the series is The Lover’s Knot

I am certain I read this book a while ago when it first came out in 2008.  The series is about a young woman, Nell, who is about to get married when she is dumped by her fiance.  She takes some time to gather her thoughts and heal her broken heart at her grandmother’s.  Her grandmother owns a quilt shop in a small town.  When her grandmother falls down a flight of stairs, breaking her leg, Nell decides to stay a while longer and help out her grandmother.  Nell then finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when she discovers the body of her grandmother’s handyman in the quilt shop.  The book is a fun cozy read that I enjoyed just as much the second time around.  I am off to read the 2nd book in the series, A Drunkard’s Path.  Happy Reading.  Kathryn
